Ardez
The Futschölpass was notorious as the pass over which the dead were transported from Galtür over the Jam Valley to Ardez to find their final resting place.

Beschreibung

This "tradition" was mainly due to the fact that Galtür could not separate from Ardez in an economic context. Despite separation, Galtür initially remained a church member of Ardez. It was not until 1359 that the village received a church with a cemetery. Until then, the dead had to be brought "home" for final rest. In winter, it is said, the dead were sometimes temporarily stored because the pass was not accessible.
