Plan d‘ Agl

The archaeological site is located in the Val Tasna and is around 2,500 years old.

Beschreibung

The oldest evidence of alpine farming ever found has been discovered in the Silvretta. In Val Tasna, on the Plan d' Agl, a cattle pen or the remains of one have been found. This stone enclosure was almost 250 square metres in size. The structure is still recognisable today, although the find is about 2,500 years old. When these pens existed, the shepherds camped directly with their cattle and not in the stable as they did later.

The pens, which were built for sheep and goats, served as protection from bears and wolves overnight and also as protection from storms. It is also assumed that the shepherds milked their animals in the cattle pens, which must have made their work immensely easier. You can also find more information at www.silvretta-historica.ch.
