Tschlin

Here, a committed young pastor from Winterthur takes care of the spiritual well-being of three congregations at once. His loving devotion extends over Samnaun Evangelisch as well as the seven churches of Valsot – Tschlin, Ramosch, Vna, Strada, Martina, San Nicla and Samnaun.

Beschreibung

Although the pulpit remains silent in San Nicla, the parish priest finds time to share his inspiring sermons between the villages. His words are heard twice a month in Ramosch, twice in Tschlin, and the evenings alternate between Strada and Martina. However, church services, once well attended, have recently experienced a slight decline.

Donna Lupa

A fascinating symbolic figure. In 1499, while she was cooking in the church, the Tyroleans took notice. Asked for whom she cooks, she answered courageously for the Engadiners, who were to arrive soon. The Tyroleans, frightened, withdrew, and Donna Lupa warned the congregation in the church. A symbol of emigration and determined resistance.

Restoration

15 years ago, the church was extensively restored. A restorer from Munich devoted himself to the frescoes, but twelve years ago a Swiss man dared to take on the task again, which was not easy. The Church of St. Blaise, named after the martyr Blaise, not only holds historical secrets, but also two concerts a year with the Music Society and two concerts with the Singverein.

Interments

Funerals in Tschlin are a unique ceremony in which the cemetery itself becomes a stage. Every deceased person is honored by the Singverein. Singing at the grave is a tradition that only exists here and shows the depth of the community.

Reformation

In 1670, Pastor Campell introduced the Reformation in the Engadine, which is now largely Reformed. Samnaun, Müstair and Tarasp, however, continue to hold on to the Catholic tradition. Pastor Campell thus initiated a historical change that can still be felt today.
